ignition key stuck

ignition key stuck
I have tryed to get the key out of my ignition on my 98 Rodeo but it won't go all the way to lock. The steering is free, not holding it. My next step is to remove the key/lock but since it won't go all the way to lock, how can it be removed for repair/replacement?

I have never had this problem, nor heard any that have, but there is a corralation to the park circuit in the automatics. If you have the auto, try it in different gear positions, try it with the button pushed in and pressure on the stick.
Is this a "new to you" vehicle? You do have to push the key in and turn it back at the same time.

re: ignition key stuck
Thanks for the reply! No, this vehicle has been mine since new....12.5 yrs now. Never had this problem before. The manual says to insert a screwdriver in the side of the lock to remove it, but you couldn't get to the release screw...(without dropping the steering column). Last night I removed the trim and found linkage to the shifter was sticking... a little WD-40 and working the shifter back and forth freed it.
