Piston slap on 98' 2.2l
Hey guys/gals, ive had my amigo for about 6yrs now, still just under 100k miles and its got the typical cold slap. Someone on a dodge forum posted they solved a piston slap issue in their car by using a lighter oil and higher quality filter. From what ive heard though, the gm 2.2l slap is from a warped cylinder, not wear/lube issue. Has anyone here found anything to improve the issue? I currently use a fram filter with valvoline semi-synth, im pretty sure 15w-30. The previous owners beat the ****e out of the poor thing, got it for $500 needing a head gasket and clutch at only 50000mi. I usually let it warm up a bit before driving it, i hate the sound. Anyways, thanks!

I rebuilt my engine at 95k miles and thought I would be pulling the pistons, rods, etc out in pieces according to the way the engine sounded. I was very surprised to see no discernible destruction to the internals. Whether the piston was warped or not I don't know...never mic'd it. But I think the engine noise is worse than it actually is. Not saying the condition is acceptable by any means....
