I've got a 1991 Isuzu Amigo 4x4 with the 2.6 motor. I went through some water a couple days ago and now it cranks right up but shuts off after about 5 seconds. It ran fine the whole way home soI dont know whats goin on. I replaced all the vaccum lines. Can somebody please help me?

Are you leaking water out of your exhaust? Check for any oil around the top of the engine, but honestly sound like a blown head gasket. Sounds like what happened to me.

It turns out one of my problems was that the gas tank was half full of water from doing some off roading. I fixed that, put a new fuel filter on it and took care of a stopped up catalytic coneverter. But now its still doing the same thing. Anybody got any suggestions?

Not sure, but have you thought that there may still be some residual water in your system? Does it still start and then stop after 5 minutes? The scary thing is that if there was still water in your lines and then when you reinstalled your gas tank, then there could be water in your tank again. ...I would empty the tank again and then run the car till it empties of all the gas in your tank and lines. Then fill enough to start and cross your fingers. If it does stalls again, I would assume then you could look elsewhere for the problem. Just my 2.

But you've probably figured out the problem by now. If so, can you illuminate us?

Have you had problems with you alternator because there is a sensor in it that will not allow it to keep running for more than a couple of seconds if that isn''t working, also if the alternator isn''t spinning it will do the same thing

My ''91 Amigo has this problem of not staying running also. At times it has run for several days and then it starts the run for a few minutes then dies. But it will start right back up but dies within a few seconds. Is the alternator issue the possible problem here?
