The RPMs drop down to about 500 rpm when I stop and a stop light it doesn't sound like it's going to die but it also doesn't sound like it use to... any suggestions? and also my gas light is always on... any quick fixes?

The fuel light is from a bad fuel sending unit. Very common on 98-01 rodeos. Cheap fix if you do it yourself. Dealerships will tell you that the whole fuel pump needs replaced, it doesnt, you can get just the sending unit and replace it.

my friend said all you have to do is buy a new gauge and put it in... what do you think? as for the drop in RPMs what do you think is wrong and possible quick fixes. A few days ago I was driving and ran out of oil... when I put oil in, it started up and ran fine until I ran out of gas and had to put more gas and then it ran fine again but noticed the drop in RPMs... Hope that wasn't too confusing

Its not the gauge its the fuel sending unit. Its inside the gas tank attached to the fuel pump.

HERE is a how to write up so you can see what is involved.

As for the rpms dropping it could be alot of things. If it started after running out of gas I would suspect something got sucked into the fuel filter. Try replacing it to start with.

With any luck you didnt hurt the engine running out of oil. Always check the oil leve at least every other gas fill up, if not with every one. Alot of the engines in '98+ rodeos are oil burners. Luckily mine isnt one of them.

hey gizmo, how many miles on your rodeo now.i havent seen too many 99-98 that didnt burn oil.this week alone i have installed 2 long blocks an another i will start next week for excessive oil consumption.i have 1 customer than has around 130k now an she only burns a half a qt between oil changes.i have been substituting 1 qt of trans fluid with the oil every oil change.so far i believe its been helping to keep those oil rings free enough.also i find weird the 3.5 liters have the most trouble with oil burning.its always the troopers.an ocassional axiom.every time number 1 rod bearing has burned from lack of oil.i,ve even been tempted to keep the oil burning engines for myself clean the rings put it back together an sell it on e-bay.isuzu doesnt ask for the engines back we just junk them.
