hello to all of you! i am brand new here and want to thank you for having me. what brought me to the forum is this... i have been having a problem with a ticking noise for a while and it is getting more prominent now. i own a 1994 rodeo 4x4 with a 3.2 litre engine i have had minimal problems with the truck since i bought it 4 years ago. i put alot of miles on it but it is all highway and i never beat my ride (it gets me to work if it fails i am pretty much screwd so i take care of it.) here is exactly what happens when i turn the key.


1. it starts hard, like 4 or so seconds to turn over


2. as soon as the engine starts i get a ticking noise like a wrench is being hit on the top of the engine it is loud and i can hear it when i am doing 60 mph. as you would guess the ticking gets faster as i put down the gas. it is real annoying and i would like to know if there is anyone out there who has had the same problem and what the deal was to fix it? i have a few more issues but i will take them in stride while you good people are patient with me:0) thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!!


p.s. sometimes the noise will stop but will go right back to clicking loudly again after a few moments

change oil.add i quart of lucas oil treatment at each oil change.use a purolator filter.never fram.ive got a 3.2dohc and this worked for me.

Sounds to me like you aren't getting enough oil to the top end. Check
your oil pump make sure it is working well. I know they are completely
different vehicles but the same thing happened to my Chevy truck and
thats what my problem was. Easy way to check without going broke is to
start the engine let it run for a couple of minutes. Maybe give it a
slight rev here or there. Turn the engine off then imediatly pull off
one of the valve covers. There should be a
substantial ammount of oil left there. You may have to replace your
valve cover gasket after this but a gasket doesn't cost all that much.
