I have a 2000 and it takes me 3 or 4 tries to get out of park to drive. What's my problem and what should I do?

hey I'm new in a rodeo and what I have to say is probably a dumb thing and you might say "duh!!" but you never know - and I figured it out pretty quick (but I didn't know) that I have to step on the brakes (first, before even touching the shifter) in order to shift out of park

If you're already smarter than I am (which is not hard obviously) my shot would be looking for a problem with exactly that sensor which tells the tranni that you're on the brakes....
