engine swap
#1
Here we go again. Is there anybody, or any website that knows anything about swapping engines in Troopers?? I have heard so many contradictions I dont know what to believe. First I have been told by "experts" that absolutely no chevy 2.8 or 3.4 will bolt in as the bell housing bolt pattern is different. Advance Adaptor's used to make an adaptor kit to fit chevy engines to isuzu trannys, but because idiots would bolt in a 350 and then, tear out drive lines, trannys, etc., they quit selling it. I would love to get ahold of one of these adaptors if someone has one. What I am looking at, is swapping in a chevy inline 4 cylinder (153 cu. in., like the 1960's Chevy II's had) or an Iron Duke 4 cylinder. My Trooper is a 1990, with the 4 cylinder Isuzu engine. Also, I have a chance to buy a 1981 Luv diesel engine. Would it bolt in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that diesal would probly bolt in, and its kinda hard to get, so i think you should get it, that engine(if it is tuned right) will get about 30-35 mpg, about 125hp, and it will never fail. there were a fewfirst gen troopers, like yours, that came with diesal engines, i only wish i could find one...

If you have the 2.3 or the 2.6 engine then your sources are correct about the bolt-up of the 2.8 or the 3.4
The GM 2.5L inline 4 would be a good match for your for a bolt-up though. They're quite common. You may still have to modify your oil pan so it fits over the front axle, or drop your axle down about 2-3 inches.
Your diesel is really the best option if it bolts up.
Good luck
