Trooper II trouble

I just bought a 1986 trooper II a few weeks ago.
heres the problem. It starts up fine when cold. But if i drive it, shut it off, get groceries or something, come back and try to start it up and it just cranks and cranks. it just wont start when it hot/warm. I got to wait for it to cool like all the way down.
i have tried giving it gas, not giving it gas i just hope i can fix it so i can keep in driving it without waitin a half hour to start it up.

</>i'm not very familiar with the carburated 2.3L......I would first replace the fuel filter - if its one of those inexpensive inline versions
probably some sort of electro-mechanical choke mechanism as well
good luck
