Greetings,

I have a 2002 Trooper. It has 130K miles. This is my 4th Trooper (my first was a 1985, purchased new for $9000). Obviously, this will be my last Trooper, but I digress...

My Trooper has the temperature control lever for the passenger compartment. That is, you set the temp, press Auto and it decides how and where to heat/cool the cabin. Near the end of September this year when it started to get cool, I noticed that after 15 minutes or so after it had warmed up, it started getting cold again. I would move the temp up. First 77, then 79, then 81 and finally it would be cold at 83 or blowing out stifling hot air at 85... No in between. It is almost as if something is heating up the cabin temperature sensor to 84, so it has nowhere to go but hot. I don't know where the sensor is, or if that is the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas? Would this kind of info be in a manual if I could put my hands on one?

One other thing, about 10,000 miles ago my Trooper started using oil. My '93 went through this at 90K+ and I drove it to 230K, putting in oil all the time. I even tried to set up an IV drip so that I did not have to keep messing with dumping in a quart every other fillup. Now this one is doing it. I guess it is a design feature. Back to Costco to buy cases of oil. I just wish that the filler neck had an extension on it so that it would be easier to fill.

Thanks!
