Hello. I am new to the forums and i need some help from some of the more knowledgeable members. Here is the problem

Rebuilt engine - done myself

Started and ran fine but was using more fuel than i believed it should. CEL on.

Read codes - P0342 only code.

Disco battery and started - ran fine, CEL returned

Read codes - P0342 again.

cleared codes using scanner.

EXCESSIVE Fuel use when codes cleared this time.

removed CMP sensor - one of the prongs was bent, replaced sensor.

Vehicle will start but will barely run.

Removed fuel pump relay and motor smooths out. CEL return with P0342.

Re-insert Fuel Pump Relay and the engine dies.

Timing has been checked 7 times. Replaced timing belt yesterday with factory belt with marks.

i guess what i am looking for is help with testing the CMP circuit and the vacuum diagram to make sure i don''t have the fuel pressure regulator plumbed incorrectly.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

updated news.

Tested the CMP circuit and have a good ground, good reference voltage (5 volts with key in run position), and all of the wires to the harness are connected.

i am lost as to what to test next considering i do not have a scope to view the sensors in real time.

I am beginning to wonder if the computer itself is bad.

but why would i only get this one code and why did it run fine before i reset the codes with the scanner?

when the CMP sensor is disconnected i get codes for TPS and P0101 and 102 and stuff.

Any help or suggestions on what to test next or where to seek advise would be greatly appreciated.

i would check vacuum hoses, you can find a really good diagram on autozone''s website thats very clear and easy to follow. a vacuum leak or a hose hooked in the wrong spot will cause all sorts of weird engine problems and kick the CEL. some sensors rely on vacuum pressure to work, including but not limited to fuel sensors. good luck!

Updated news:

After lots of research and plenty of calls to isuzu tech no one could help me.

Finally finding the answers to my problem with excessive fuel from the tailpipe then turning to a no start/barely run situation.

The catalytic converter was plugged on the side with the Camshaft position sensor.

after the sensor was replaced the code was still there P0342. unknown to me, one of the connecting pins in the sensor bent when the plug was installed. Stupid me i didn''t check to see if this had happened because the plug went in so smoothly!!

So to wrap things up my assembly of the engine and timing components were correct i didn''t have any vacuum leaks and all of my headaches were caused by a simple pin in a sensor that you have to remove to be able to visally inspect.

My advice is if you ever replace this sensor...."plug it in before you bolt it in!!!"
