no spark
Ok, I have a 91 Trooper with a 2.4L and a 5 speed manual trans. And i give up. It all stated like this:
The trooper dies in the middle of the road with nowhere to pull over drag it home and it was the fuel pump
I replace the pump, it fires right up runs great. makes it around the block once and dies. Tow it home
Replace the MAF sensor. Starts right up runs great. makes it a little further up the road and dies. tow it home
Replace the control module. starts up runs great for about 40 miles and starts to cut out. Lasts for about 10 more miles. dies, tow it home.
So then i find a trooper at a junkyard that has a running motor in it. I take the distributer, coil, and control module off and put them on mine along with a new set of spark plugs. Runs awesome. for about 3 miles dies
When it runs it runs like a new car. This is really frustrating. I dont know what else to check. Any ideas before I fix it with a hammer lol
oh and i checked for spark and there is none. The coil has power to it but nothing comming out at to the dizzy cap

Just thinking about it... every time you replaced something, it worked for a few miles right? What''s the commonality? In other words, did you disconnect the negative terminal on your battery each time you attempted a repair? Or maybe something else? If you can figure what same action you did time after time, you might find the problem. Assuming it''s your battery cable, my next thought if I were you would be what curcuit resets each time you disconnect the battery? Are vacuums resetting also? If you can figure that out then you may be able to track the problem component.
Hope that helps... just looking at it with an out of the box approach.

no. no battery cable or vacuum lines disconnected just a simple r and r of the parts listed. Can you think of any electric component i have not replaced? does it have a main computer or brain of some sort? I still have access to another trooper that is the same for parts and I''ve taken everything that i know of; coil, dizzy, and control module. I bought brand new maf, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Someone told me to check and see if the cat is plugged sending excess heat back into the engine compartment, over heating electrical components. I noticed when i run it around town after replacing something it craps out on me but when i replaced the control module the first time i headed straight for the freeway and it ran fine until i got into town again and had to slow down. I go work on it Friday again and im gonna hollow the cat out and if it starts ill see if it helps
thanks for any info you can give
