Default new to troopers. transmission issue

Recently purchased a 2001 trooper. Has 180k on it. Drove it for a day and the transmission seemed fine. Now all i have got for gears is reverse and L. D2, d3, do nothing and D works til it shifts out of 1st gear. Then they all just hi rev and rig goes nowhere. I can manually shift it into L and limp it home. Any advice on whats going on with it? Range sensor? Solenoids? Bands?

Could be a solenoid or the range switch.
Check to see if any CEL codes have been set.
Bad solenoid will set a code, but I don't think the range switch will.
A flakey range switch may make the gear lights on the dash flash erratically.
Also make sure the battery is good. A slightly weak battery will seriously effect the trans ECM.
