< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </> I am loosing about a half gallon coolant per 1000 miles. Changed the radiator cap per mechanic recommendation. No leaks on the 98 at all. Also having all the problems everyone else is talking about with lifters, etc but did change the PCV Valve and made a big difference in oil consumption. I have an extgended warranty that covers the entire engine and just turned over 100k on the truck. Love it but want it to last. If I have to blow the dam thing up I will to have the valve noise stopped. Since I am covered under warranty for almost another year any suggestions on the coolant loss and getting the head or valves replaced? < =text/> _uacct = "UA-939292-44"; urchinTracker(); </> |
< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </> Welcome to the Forum! I don't have your model or engine, if I understand your post it is a 98 Trooper with 3.5 engine? You should put your vehicle info in your signature....it will help others help you. Anyway, lots of discussion on these two topics, try a search for threads that discuss them. I am not aware that the 3.5 had any cyl head problems with cracking that might let coolant into the cyl but have you noticed white exhaust smoke while driving it once it is warmed up? If you smell coolant in the cabin, you may have a leaking heater core and the coolant is being soaked up by the padding and carpeting on the pass side? It sounds like your oil is not cloudy or foamy as it would get if coolant was getting in to the oil, so that is good. As for the lifter noise, are you sure it is lifter and not timing belt tensioner noise? I think the timing belt is supposed to be changed every 100,000 on your engine. If it is lifters, using a high detergent oil and a product like Seafoam seems to be a popular way to get the lifters clean and working right. Hope this helps. < =text/> _uacct = "UA-939292-44"; urchinTracker(); </> |
Yea, 98 3.5L, no smoke, runs great, starts on cold mornings don'e even have to touch the gas, have done the oil treatment detergent and it fixed alot of lifter noise. I am just concerned that I have a warranty and if the heads need to be replaced or all the lifters they way I read it will have to be replaced then I am going to take advantage of the warranty. I still have more than a year left on the warranty but I really have no idea where the coolant is going, the truck and motor runs great and I love it out on the road. To me as good as a Caddilac! < src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </> < =text/> _uacct = "UA-939292-44"; urchinTracker(); </> |
