I have a '94 trooper 3.2 sohc. one of the igition coils was going bad (spark shooting out from it) so I bought a new one a put it on. It hasn't started since. I even tried putting the old one back on because at least it was running then, but still won't start. It's only 2 screws and the 2 spark plug wires. Simple. I've unplugged the battery, checked all fuses inside and out, unhooked the other 2 coils and put all three back on, I don't know what else to try. Could the base that the coils sit on go bad? What else could be causing this? someone please help me with any suggestions. Thanks.

Well, interesting problem. Isn't there another plug (connector) to signal the coil to fire? I assume it is cranking, and that there is fuel. Have you listened to make sure the fuel pump is turning on for 2 seconds when you first turn the key on? I would clean the intake bosses where the coil pak mounts to the intake. Isuzus are known for electrical gremlins due to bad grounds and corrosion. Have you pulled a wire and put a plug in it to see for sure that there is no spark....check the new coil but also one of the older ones too.

Hope this helps.

Yes to all of your assumptions, the other 2 coils are firing. I have pulled the spark plug wires out of the coils while it's turning and the spark is jumping to the other four wires from the other two coils, but not the one I replaced. The contacts are clean and firm that thecoil slides onto. There are three plugs (connectors) of wires that connect to the plate that the coils sit on and I have unplugged, and plugged them back in several times, but I didn't touch them until I had this problem. I've been working on cars for 20 years and this is the craziest thing I've ever come across. I'm gonna go out and swap the coils around and tinker with it some more today. Thanks for responding.

It was the ignition control module (the piece the coils connect to). I got it on ebay for $45.

Thanks for posting your fix on your problem. Like you, I think we both would have eventually ended up at the module. Did you just assume it was bad or were you able to determine it was bad before you replaced it?
