Factory alarm issues

I am having an issue with the factory alarm. not sure if it even works but I just bought the car a week ago and the buttons didn't work so I replaced the batteries and now the panic button works but the unlock button has no response and the lock button just beeps for about 10 seconds and does nothing:confused:. Is there something wrong the remote or possibly the whole system? Thanks

First the basics, what year?

And possibly the remote needs reprogramming.

It is a 1999 Trooper 3.5L.

Any idea on how to reprogram the alarm?

I just tried this about a hundred time and could not get it going? Does anyone know if this is the correct sequenc?

his is from SB98-13-L004. I believe this applies to all 98-2001 Troopers and Rodeos. This is verbatim from the TSB:

This procecdure erases all exsisting transmitters codes and programs only one remote to the system. To program additional remotes, see Adding Additional Remotes. Perform these steps as quickly as possible.
Step: Operation: Confirmation

2: Open the driver's door
3: Insert key in the ignition
4: Turn key to ACCESSORY then OFF 3-times, in one-second intervals
5: Close and open the driver's door 2-times, in one second intervals. door pin switch may be toggled instead.)
6: Turn the key to ACCESSORY then OFF 5-times, in one-second intervals.
7: Close, then open the driver's door. (Door pin switch may be toggled instead.)
8: Press the lock button of the remote being programmed.
9: Press the lock button of the remote. RESPONSE: The doors will lock and unlock 1-time.
