Clutch Issues

Good morning,

I recently replaced the clutch, master cylinder and slave cylinder in my 1994 Trooper. I did not get the heat shields back on as I couldn't figure out which way they go. Now I am having an issue once I drive for a bit and everything warms up it feels like the clutch is slipping. I couldn't even make it up the mountain yesterday until it sat for an hour and cooled off. Once it cools the clutch engages fine and has zero issues. My question is could it be that the exhaust is heating up the slave so much that its expanding the fluid and disengaging the clutch? When its slipping it doesn't smell as if clutch is burning. If this is the culprit, how would you suggest I fix the issue. Anyone have a picture of how the heat shields go back on? Any help would really save me. Thanks Nick

To me it sounds like the clutch master is not adjusted properly. Just make sure that there is some free play and no pressure on the clutch rod.
You still need the heat shield to protect the flex hose and it could be the problem but I’m leaning towards improper adjustment.
Hope this helps and good luck!
