I have a 1993 Isuzu Trooper that makes a clicking sound at the front wheel when I place it in 4 wheel drive. Sometimes the clicking continues until I take it out of 4 wheel drive. Is this normal? My friends 1995 does the same thing every once in a while.

Hmmmm....

Sounds like it's not fully engaging in 4wd. You may have issues with your CV joints as well.

Try stopping, shift into 4wd, then go. I know you can do this "on the fly", but sometimes it won't engage properly.

If you have the autolock hubs, you have to back up a few feet to unlock them after using 4WD.I would expect the clicking to continue afteryou take it out of 4WD UNTIL you back up, since the axles are locked even after you disengage the 4WD. If the clicking only happens in 4WD/hubs lockedthen I would suspect the CV joints too. If it is while turning in one or both directions, then I would really think CV joint. Have you looked at the boots (inner and outer) for tears, leaks, etc?

I agree with atfdmike, but if it is the auto locking hubs they are probably cooked by now, and that is why they are clicking.

< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </>i agree as well with keefbikes and atfdmike. the auto locking hubs always click. likeatfdmike says you have to back up to unlock your axles. if you swap your auto lockers to manual you will not have the clicking any more. as long as your axles aren't shot < =text/> _uacct = "UA-939292-44"; urchinTracker(); </>

I have had the same problem on my 1995 trooper, i took it in and had it looked at. I ended up replacing the hub and the hub bearings and now it does not click on that side.

CV axles are goin bad, my 94 did it and turned out the boots were split and joints were dry... so check your cv boots see if they are broken if so then you need new axles
