I believe the gears in my auto hubs are stripped out. Can I pull manual hubs off something else. Is there a rebuild kit out there for these. What do you guys use. Appropriate the help, its friggin snowing up hear.

I think i have a probem with my auto lock hubs on my 88. they work, but sometimes they make a clicking sound. then if i reverse while in 4WD the clicking gets worse.
its a huge pain to unlock them too. i have to reverse about 30 feet!

i used to have the clicking sound as well on mine. i took them apart one day and noticed that the grease had turned into wax over the years and there was very little left, so i cleaned them off and re-greased them. after that they lock in and out of 4wd much easier (within the first full roll of the tire) and without noises.

if you actually tore out the gears themselves i would just go to a junk yard and take the parts off of an old one, no idea how much it would cost or where you could buy the part new

ive had similar problems with my auto hubs. the cheapest and easiest fix i found was to replace the old hubs with mile marker manual hubs. its a really easy replacement and much much stronger, although you have to get out and lock them every time. also a bonus is a bit better gas mileage because the front axles arent turning all the time! calmini has a replacement too but they are more expensive. junkyard hubs are unreliable if you dont know what to look for.
