96 Trooper battery Problems.
i have 96 trooper that i have not been able to keep a battery in. i drive it only on weekends. i can charge it today and come back next week and it will be dead as a hammer. i have had it for 3 years and it has always done it. i have been through several batteries and this does not fix the problem. i know something is draining it down but can't figure out what. Anyone have any ideas or know how to identify what is draing it down. i am to the point of trying rig some kind of switch to disconnect the battery.

idk coulkd be anything draining it? if u only use it on the weekends i would just unhook the battery when u leave it!

Remove the negative batt cable and hook an ammeter between the cable and the terminal. If it reads more than 30 milliamperes you have parasitic drain. Start pulling fuses till the drain goes away, when it does you have found the circuit associated with the drain. Good luck.

supatrooper, is there anything they are notorious for on the drain? Clock, radio, just trying to figure where to start with the fuses. Brought the battery home Sunday and charged for 24 hours and it showed a full charge. Just put it back on charge a nd it is at 50% right now. 3 rd battery in 3 years so am assuming that the constant drain and recharging is killing my batteries.
