1999 trooper hubs
trying to remove the front brake rotors. i see that there are 3 screws that hold a keeper ring?? in the hub. i can not break these screws loose and the phillip heads are about to strip out on me. dumb design imo. does someone have a trick for this. other wise it looks like break out the drill, drill out the screws, hopefully i dont damage threads, bla bla bla. im sure you know the drill.

You should have used one of those removing tools that you put the bit in and twist it and hit with a hammer. For some reason I can think of its name. They cost like $15 at Harbor Freight or some place like that.
Make sure you go to the dealer and get new screws when replacing units. Cheep, like $.60 a piece and install with a philips screw driver :) Hope this helps. |
Impact driver. But I have to agree, horrible design. This isn't exclusive either. Its on all sorts of cars they use those huge screws that are impossible to get out.

Thanks for to discussing this topic, I appreciate this page and want to know more information on it. Effect car owner. But I have to believe the fact, awful design. This isn't unique either. Its on all kinds of vehicles they use those huge nails that are difficult to get out.

carsindia, I read your post with intrest. The last line says, "they use those huge nails that are diffcult to get out". What huge nails are you talking about?? Never saw huge nails in any Isuzu Trooper or Rodeo.
