1998 Trooper
 

Hey gang,

Got a 1998 Trooper and when I press the 4WD button, the light goes on to indicate that it's activate, but it stays flashing. Is that how it is normally? That doesn't seem right to me. I would think it would stop flashing at some point. Also, does anyone know what the Power Drive does and the Winter Drive does? I've poured a bunch of money into this SUV. Bought it for $1995, it had a cracked intake manifold gasket ($300), replaced the water pump and timing belt ($900), the starter and the battery ($560.00). Had a tune-up done ($400.00), replaced the tires and brakes ($1,600.00). All of the work except for the intake manifold gasket and the starter was proactive on my behalf in the hopes of heading off future problems. I'm hoping to get at least 50K more out of this beast, it's a great truck. Any feedback would be most appreciated.

I too just purchased a 1998 Trooper. While testing out the 4wd, I noticed the 4wd indicator flashed when the transfer case wasn't fully engaged (or disengaged). Try pressing the 4wd button again (while in neutral), then put it in reverse for a few feet. Let me know if this stops it from flashing.

I'll give that a try and let you know what happens. I appreciate the info.

it should flash and then the front wheels will light up depending on the need of grip. it should look like an equalizer almost. at the most need point it should fil the entire portion of the wheel light.

I tried Motorhead's advice and no dice, still just kept flashing. I'll give it another go because I'm uncertain if I had the truck in neutral when I pressed the 4WD button. I'm going to see if i can find a reputable Trooper mechanic in the Chicago area if that does not work. I should feel a shift underneath when this occurs, no? Similar to when I apply the Winter Drive? (I feel a distinct shift occur when I apply that setting).
