1997 Isuzu Trooper Questions (reliability)

My friend is selling a 97 trooper LS for $3,400. It's like new condition. He has had it for 9,000miles and the person before him owned it for ten years (female). The vehicle looks very well maintained. It hasn't been off-roaded! Has new pads, turned rotors, alarm system, 50% tread on tires, and everything else stock.

Everything works. Has 99,000 miles.

I am wondering if it'll be reliable at this mileage, and what experiences have people had w/ this vehicle? Thanks.

Are trooper people dicks? It's wierd how nobody responds to posts. Ha.

Yah, Troopers are garbage, and I am a dick.

But since you asked nice, and waited almost 25 hours for a response.

I have a '99 with 326,000 miles on it and don't hesitate to take it on a long trip. Keep in mind that there can be problems with any used car. Although your friend is asking a fair price for it, I personally think it's too much.

Hum, ok thanks. I know he got it for 2,500 at an auction. I would like to get it cheaper at an auction, but don't have experience in that field (mechanics). I figured that i could take it to a mechanic and have them look at the compresson of the motor, suspension bushings, and other joints etc. Is there any advice on what to really look out for?

Thanks.

It sounds like it's pretty clean, so the only thing you can really look for is obvious stuff like underbody damage, CV boots wear, water in the oil, oil in the water, signs of either in the past, burnt oil, leaking gaskets, burnt tranny fluid, rust in the floor boards, evidence of a leaky sunroof if it has one............ The list goes on.

If your planning on taking to a mechanic, take it to one that offers a full pre-purchase inspection.

OK, I'll probably take it down the street here. They'll check all the obvious signs. I'll also list the things you mentioned. I am looking into the trooper more, and where parts are available etc. Reading past posts. Thanks.

Here are links to the troopers. (found another i'm interested in. The top is my friends, green.) I am interested in the red one, but it's 2x4. Not sure if the 2001 motor is any better than the 97, or if the gas mileage is better being its got 25 hp more and 3.5 rather than 3.2 liter. Any thoughts?

If you are looking for a SUV, get the four wheel drive one. If you are looking for mileage, get a Honda. The difference between the two you posted will be negligable.

Yea, the 4x4 really had 200,000k miles not 100,000. Ha someone rolled the miles back. Not good, a lot of codes came up for emissions ect. The 2001 although being 2x4 was a lot nicer on the interior. The motor pulled! But the code p0401 which is for the egr came up. It has a 15 day guarantee though. I offered 3k for the red one.

Also the stock 6 cd playeris missing the removable face. Can I find a new face possibly. Is this an option or are all specifically coded pair face and main unit.
