Hello, I’m new here and have a transmission problem with my 98 Rodeo LS. Some insight, we bought it new in 98 and have had absolutely no problem with it till the past couple of months. It has been very well maintained and just turned 124000 miles. What it’s doing is on the first start of the day when you start driving it will have a very hard shift from first to second and second to third, and then extremely hard down shifts. But if I pull over and turn the car off for about thirty seconds and restart it it shifts perfect for the rest of the day. When this started happening we had the trans oil changed (not flushed just changed) and it still does it. I’m thinking it may be a sensor what doyou all think. I should also mention it only does it three to four times a week and the other three to four day it’s fine.

I researched this years ago and it was something to do with repacking the grease on part of the driveshaft somewhere. I''m in the middle of swapping out my motor and will probably get back to that sometime. My 3.2L head glasket started leaking at about 170k. After a failed attempt at replacing it, I''m finally just replacing the motor. But yeah, research the grease repacking. They said to use the red crown or whatever it''s called grease from a tractor store. Apparently that grease is much thicker than the typical grease... Good luck.
