I Just got a 99 Isuzu Rodeo I was looking to check the tranny fluid and oil but I only found one dipstick which looked like the one for the oil. does this suv havea dipstick for the trany. All the info I got from the owner manual Said have tranny check at dealer. Sound like a dumm ? if so sorry

Nope, no dipstick seems stupid to all of us.

check http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=5126

The last post in that thread has instructions on how to check it. Its for an '00 trooper but would be the same for yours, same tranny.

The fill plug would be the one labled as #1 in the pic.Edited by: Gizmo42

Thanks Gizmo42

Another ? So if no dipstick then i would imagine that it has a senser when the fluid is running low.

Gizmo42 08-03-2006 04:03 AM

Nope no sensor. It should be checked with normal service intervals. The 4L30E really likes clean fluid. Some recommend a full flush every 30k miles or a partial change (drain and refill) every 15k. Not sure how often it should be checked (I have a 5 speed).

As long as you keep it serviced and dont over heat it it should last a long time.

Just what ever the owners manual says. No specific brand either though we all have our favorites.

'97 should be the same. I believe it used the same GM 4L30E tranny.
