I have a 2002 Rodeo 4x4 with a v6 engine. When I get on the interstate and go above 70mph, the transmission shifts real hard, then the check transmission light starts flashing and every gear shifts hard. however, if i turn the vehicle off for about 5 min, it will quit doing it! Also, when I let off the gas at highway speeds, the Engine RPM's fall completely off and when I push on the gas pedal again, it takes it a minute to catch up to how fast the car is going......can anyone help?

thanks

Could be old or low on trans fluid. If you havent had it done, have the pans dropped filter cleaned/replaced then refilled (it is NOT a sealed transmission). DO NOT have a flush done, that will most likely kill it. Or it could be the range mode sensor is dirty http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=1707

I've seen where the range motion sensor is located and I believe I can clean it up, but does anyone have a good method of re-filling the transmission fluid after I drop the pan and filter? From what I've read in the Haynes Manual, I assume I'll have to get a Fluid Temperature Gauge to read the temp, then add with a hand pump or something? Thanks for all the info so far.

well, I cleaned range motion sensor, and it helped a little but the problem is still there. I don't think its the fluid since the dealership I bought the vehicle from replaced the fluid (they "fixed" a leak in a spring-backed "plug" on the passesnger side, which then proceeded to loosen and blow out while I was driving home one sunday evening---tranny fluid everywhere and left me stranded!) could it be the speed sensor sending bad information to the computer? and do you guys have any idea what that spring-backed plug could be?
