</>i have a 99 rodeo with an automatic and it wont shift out of first. it runs fine and if you put it in reverse or drive it goes right into gear like nothing was wrong but it wont shift out of first. if you get up to 20-30 and let off the gas sometimes it will shift out of first but its like it shifts into nuetral instead of 2nd and as soon as you drop it into first it goes back into gear and can be driven. i checked the fluid and it was full but it was a dark color and smelled burnt. i was told that those trannys are real picky about the fluid level and it has to be an exact temp to check it but i was also told to just let it warm up for a few min so i let it idle for 5-10 min before checking it. i was also told that the range sensor might just need cleaned so i took it off and cleaned it and it made no diffrence at all. does any one have any idea what the problem could be? is it posible that its the computer in the car and changing the tranny wouldnt help? i found a tranny for 300 with a 6 month warenty but i really dont want to change it if i dont have to.Edited by: z28driver350
