timing belt
 

My son has a 96 Rodeo with a 3.2l engine. the water pump froze up and melted the timing belt. Ive heard these engines are interference engines. Does it always bend the valves if the belt breaks on these engines? Is there any way to tell if the vavles got bent without removing the heads?
Any help would be appreciated.
