Timing on a 2.2L - Completly confused
I'm hoping that someone has delt with this before. I recently changed the camshaft positioning sensor. I had to take the timing belt off and remove a sprocket because the sensors bolt was stripped. With that being said...the timing alignment has been altered. The procedure in the Hanes manual is vague in regards to resetting the timing. It says to align the timing marks on the sprocket with the marks on the cover. But there are two marks (intake and exhaust). Do you line up both intake or both exhaust? I know that the crankshaft mark has to be lined up with the bottom notch and the #1 piston should be at TDC but besides that, I'm lost.

the marks should be at almost the 12 oclock position. the intake(left) and the exhaust (right) as looking from the front of vehicle looking toward the back. If you have removed the timing gear off of one of the cams make sure to align the pin with the correct hole. Exhaust for the exhaust cam and intake for the intake cam.

Thanks for the input. I'll give it another try.

- Do not bend or twist belt, otherwise its core could be damaged. The belt should not be bent at a radius less than 30 mm. - Timing belt drive gear counterhold with J-42620. - Do not allow oil or other chemical substances to come in contact with the belt. They will shorten the life. - Do not attempt to pry or stretch the belt with a screw driver or any other tool during installation. - Store timing belt in cool and dark place. Never expose the belt direct sunlight or heat. INSTALLATION http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PR...53380/78566107

For used timing belt (over 60 minutes from new): The pointer will be approximately 4 mm (O.16 inch) to the left of the center of the "V" notch when viewed from the front of the engine. http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PR...53380/78566115 For new timing belt: The pointer must be at the center of "V" notch when viewed from the front of the engine. http://www.alldatapro.com/alldata/PR...53380/78566116

The reply before is great but it is missing one very important thing. Make sure to rotate the engine through at least 4 revolutions, (i did mine 8 to make sure). It is very easy to bend valves in this motor with the starter. If you get to a point of high resistance, stop and recheck everything. Dont bend the valve(s) as it is very costly. This also gives you a chance to recheck the tensioner.

This sucks! But on the bright side. Alien (1979) -> Aliens (1986) = 7yrs. Terminator (1984) --> Terminator 2 (1991) = 7yrs. Avatar (2009) --> Avatar 2 (2016) = 7yrs. Good things come... As soon as it became clear that James Cameron's 3D masterwork Avatar was a mega hit (to date it's grossed $2 782 275 172 - yes replica seiko premier you read that number correctly) ulysse nardin lady diver watches wheels were put in motion for a cinematic return to Pandora. Fox were so impressed with Cameron's work that they donated a considerable amount to his green fund replica technomarine watch for which he agreed to be tied up until at least 2015 to allow work to begin straight on the films. tsode Cameron's been busily working away on technology to improve the already pretty amazing technologies that he more or less invented to make the first film promising us a pair of sequels that will - among other things - reportedly explore the oceans of Pandora (Cameron is a keen diver and submariner). Well the sequel that was initially planned for December 2014 has now been pushed back. Quite a way back it turns out. So sayeth producer Jon Landau michele watch who - speaking at a preview screening of the Titanic 3D conversion - says the first sequel is "four years away".
