Oil Consumption and an engin swap
#1
Trying to figure out why my 99 3.2 DOHC Rodeo is eating so much oil. It's currently going through about 1 liter per 300-400 km's. The real kicker is that there seems to be decent power still and no smoke out of the pipe. I'm not using synthetic oil so I would expect to see a smoke show with that kind of consumption. There is no leaks and the motor is dry all over. There is only 138000 km's on the vehicle.
I'm going to try a really strong engine oil treatment to try to unstick the oil rings and change the PCV valve...Again! and see if that helps. Until a couple of weeks ago, I was using about 1 liter per 700-1000km which I have been told is considered normal by Isuzu. Anyone have any other sugesations or insight.
Secondly, if I am looking at a new/used motor, I heard that Isuzu fixed this oil consumption problem in 2003. Cana post 2003 3.2 or 3.5 Rodeo motor swap right into my 99 manual's place? My options right now for a motor are a remanufactured at the tune of about 5000.00 canadian or risking a used motor from a wrecker. I'm notopposed to a wrecker engine as long as what I heard about the fixed oil problem is true for 03's and on and those motors will bolt in.
Thanks all

5000.00 is alot, you can find a low mileage used 03 for less an it will swap easily to your rodeo, except for cam sensor an the knock sensor which is a minor fix.the only difference in the 3.2 an 3.5 is the stroke lenghth, you proably would really notice a big power increase between the 2.shop around some more even for a 03 or 04 3.2 from another rodeo.

Thanks alot for the info. I will keep looking. I did read somewhere on this site or another, I think, that the 03 + were drive by wire. I had never heard this previously, is this true? If it is, it would require a new harness and some other bits for sure.

hello mate, wanna tell you somethin..yesterday i've seen my cousin in his garage fixing his isuzu ascender, he did the engine swap, engine parts, and got his covercraft dustop, and I’m glad he did it. he religiously cover it in between uses. when he go out, he can be sure the car is waiting and ready to go, and looking its best.
