I posted this before, but I still have not been able to correct it. I was hoping that someone might have some more suggestions.

My 2001 Rodeo has lost about 3MPG on its fuel efficiency. (It is a 4cyl.)

I have replaced the spark plugs, air filter, switched to a synthetic
blend oil, and used BG 44K fuel injector cleaner (recommended by
several people). I first noticed it after I started using Premium grade
gasoline. I have switched back to using the regular grade that I used
to use.

I don't have a Check Engine Light, and the truck seems to be running fine.

Any suggestions?

The only thing I would recommend is to disconnect the battery for a few hours....the computer may be (I'm not for sure) one of those kinds that "learns" your driving habits and engine running parameters. Perhaps disonnecting the battery will reset it and the thing will re-set. This is just a guess...as you seem to have a wierd problem. Check your tire pressure also...

Different weather conditions and seasonal fuel formulations can also bring about changes in performance, including gas mileage.

mostly your right foot though...

Thanks,

The tires are fine also.

I'll try what you suggested with the battery. I have disconnected it, but for only about 10-15 minutes.

HI.. I have the same problem on my 2000 rodeo. THere is no Check engine light on and teh Fuel efficiency is pretty low. Have cleaned up the censors and does not change.

If you found a solution to the problem please post it.

I'm thinking that the Air Flow meter might be faulty and needs replacement.

How many miles are on your truck and are the oxygen sensors original?

O2 sensors can lose accuracy over time and be off enough to effect mileage but not enough to trip a CEL. Lots of ppl have reported increased milage by changing them even though they werent gettin a CEL. I picked up a couple mpg on mine when I replaced the sensors. Just need to do the 2 before the cat converters. The 2 downstream ones basicly just make sure the cat converters are working.

You can try cleaning the MAF as well. Just remove it and spray with some electrical spray or MAF cleaner.

Have you changed gas companys? Not all gas is the same, I can fill a tank with a local refiners gas here in Utah and get 14mpg. I can fill it under the same driving conditions with Chevron, or Conoco and get 18-22mpg. Swap out the O2 sensors up stream, this always helps.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Yes I have tried gas from several companies.

Some things I have read suggest that this is normal gas mileage for my truck. I guess the engine is very inefficient in the city.

I would make sure you have a good air filter on there. I would go with K&N.

urchinTracker();
