Just bought a Rodeo for cheap, need help!
 

I'm new here as well as to the Rodeo community. I just bought a 96 for cheap to get me around during the winter but need to address several issues. As I was driving it home I lost power several times with the lights, radio, gauges, and everything going completely dark and the rpm and mph reading 0 and then it would turn back on. Finally as I stopped to turn on to my street the car completely died, with almost no illumination coming from the dash. Also, I don't know if it has anything to do with it but the fan belt was quite loud as I believe it was tightened improperly. The previous owner said that he replaced the alternator 4 days ago but that it was still having trouble charging. I am going to go ahead and replace the battery as it is old as well as tighten the fan belt but is there something I should look for that would explain the strange loss of power throughout the car while driving? Thanks in advance for any help.

Bad ignition switch perhaps?
