Hi all, 2 problems with a '96 rodeo
Hey-new to the forum. I recently got some work done, timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets replaced..I just hit 120k miles. the mechanic noticed that I had a broken camshaft bracket. He explained to me that the camshaft has several brackets to keep it in place, and one of these was fractured in half. He and I have called every damn junkyard in L.A. and can't find the part. I can't get just a bracket from isuzu, they want to sell me the whole shaft with brackets for about $1500..is it possible to order such a thing directly from japan?..that's problem one..
problem 2: since I got the car back from the guy, my coolant reservoir empties out every other day, but I have no external coolant leaks. I thought this related to the work I had done-went back to the mechanic who pressure-tested the system, came back at 17psi, which according to him is good. my engine is 3.2ltr 6-cylinder. I see nothing leaking underneath, no busted hoses, and I don't see any fluid in the oil other than the oil itself. the mechanic suggested a cracked head gasket..my issue is, this only started happening after he did this work. I asked him point-blank if it's possible that his guys made a mistake, did some unintended damage..he said they didn't go near the head gaskets at all.. it was rock-solid before that, no coolant reservoir issues...just a coincidence?.. Do you have any suggestions on what I might be dealing with? Thanks Edit: also, it bucks like crazy in 1st and 2nd gear.. smooth from 3rd to 5th gear..no idea why. |
For your first issue, you might want to try a junk yard. With Isuzu not making these vehicles anymore, it might get tough to find parts elsewhere.
For your second one, try JustAnswer.com. They have online mechanics to help with questions. They ask you to pay a nominal fee, but it's voluntary and you don't pay until after they help you. I used it and they even sent me some wiring diagrams that I didn't have. Well worth the $13 I ended up paying for the help. |
