I have a 99 Rodeo LS V6. For some months now I've noticed a squeak noise every time I turn my engine on. The same noise returns once I start accelerating. If I do hit 80mph the sound becomes much clearer and more frequent. The sound goes away once I let go of the gas, but then I hear a different sound that resembles a piece of paper hitting a fan when I do that.

My mechanic thinks its a pulley or maybe my harmonic balancer. specifically he believes the squeak is coming from the rubber in between the harmonic balancer, and that it maybe shifting or becoming loose causing the squeaks.

A harmonic balancer is so F'n expensive for a 99 Rodeo, that I don't want to cough up the cash unless it's for certain that is the problem. I marked my harmonic balancer with a marker to see if the parts were both turning at the same time, and so far the the marks are still aligned. I am confused.

My truck runs smooth, and there are no noticeable performance issues with it, but that squeak annoys the hell out of me. My question is has anyone experience this before?
