Hello all,

We have a 2001 Rodeo with the big V-6. I thought the tank size on it was ~19 gallons. (What size tank does it have?)BUT when my fuel light comes one we can only get about 14 gallons in it. Is there a problem with the gauge? This has been the case since we bought the truck new. Thanks for the help!

Chris

Should be a 20 gallon tank. Normally I would susupect the fuel sending unit going bad, classic symptoms. But since it has happened since new I dont know. Usually they start going out around 30k miles, its a common problem though less so with 2000+. If its still under warrenty I would take it to the dealer and see if they will replace it or recalibrate it (have to calibrate the computer). The fuel sending unit is considered part of the drive train so covered under warrenty.

Basicwarrenty is 3/50k

Drivetrain is 10/120k unless you are second owner then it is cut in half.

If the dealer tries to tell you the fuel sending unit isnt covered then call isuzu corparate and they will get on them. The FSU is attached to the fuel pump and considered part of the fuel pump which is covered under the drive train warrenty. There have been some dealers that try to get out if it.

I talked to the dealer and he said the fuel sending unit was not covered on the drivetrain warranty. I guess I will just live with it.

Your dealer is lying to you. The sending unit is attached to the fuel pump and is considered part of the pump. The fuel pump is covered under warrenty.

From the Isuzu FAQ at http://isuzufaq.ibctech.ca/#faq2

I have had with my 2000
Isuzu Rodeo. I am the original owner and a year ago, went to the dealer and
they indicated the FUEL SENDING UNIT (fuel gauge not working) was not covered
under the Powertrain 10yr/100K warranty. Well after reviewing notes on your
site, I contacted the Isuzu corporate customer service and they indicated that
IT IS covered. I called the local Houston, TX dealer and they said no it's not
that it "is not attached directly to the fuel pump - therefore it is not
considered part of the warranty". I told them to please call the Isuzu
customer service/owner relations manager that I spoke to (800) 255-6727 to get
Isuzu's most recent information and to fix my car!

It worked, I just rec'd my warranty work for the fuel sending unit (FSU) and
paid nothing! Please post my info on your site, so other Isuzu owners can do
the same. Isuzu customer relations number works wonders! If a dealer is giving
you a hard time - refer to the corporate office - it worked for me.

Hmmm Would the camshaft sensor be covered? My dealer had to replace it on my 2001 rodeo and said it wasn't covered.

I dont know about the camshaft sensor but you would think if the FSU is covered any other sensor for the drive train should be. You could try calling the 1-800 number and ask them. Sorry I dont have an answer for you, havent read of anyone having other sensors changed under warrenty.
