Drive belt wear problems
#1
I just noticed that the serpentine belt on my rodeo (3.2L) is running off
the harmonic balancer and alternator pulleys. I put a new belt on and
then the belt started running off the back of the fan pulley. Then I
noticed that the back of the fan pulley is not in line with the rest of the
pulleys. It is about 1/2 inch forward compared to the rest. I'm sure that
this is what is causing my problems. I think that sometime in the past the
fan hub must have gone bad, then whoever replaced the part either didn't
notice the difference, or they got it from an older 3.2L in a salvage yard.
So I guess these are my questions:
What is the stock depth of pulley that is supposed to be on a 99 3.2L?
Are the fan hubs different lengths throughout the years?
Has anyone had this problem with a Isuzu rodeo before?
Vehicle is a 99 Isuzu rodeo/w 3.2L 4x4
thanks for any advice

Not sure about the length (too cold and dark to go out and measure) but isuzu lists 2 different ones for the 6VD1 DOHC engine depending on when it was made.
BRACKET; FAN 8-97148-675-1 07-1997 to 06-1999
BRACKET; FAN 8-97231-718-0 07-1999 and LATER
I dont know how different they are but could be someone got one for the wrong build date. Or they might have gotten one from a completly different vehicle. Also, next time you have the belt off try wiggling the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) and make sure its ok.Edited by: Gizmo42

I think that I figured out what happened. I was talking on another forum, and
there was a guy on there that had a similar problem. The bushing inside the
bracket started getting worn out, and the shaft started moving forward.
The balancer isn't wiggling around. The fan pulley is moved forward about a
1/2". Therefore it is pulling the belt out of alignment.
Where did you get the part numbers Gizmo2?

I got them from myisuzuparts.com
Unfortunatly, shortly after isuzu announced they will no longer be selling vehicles in the US after January 09 they also announced they are planning on shutting down that web site. Nobody knows for sure when that is going to happen though. Some members of different boards are working with isuzu to get the same info on cds for a reasonable cost.
