I have a 1999 Rodeo. I have read here before that there have been some ABS issues with these vehicles. I think I may be having those issues now. I live in WI and we have slippery roads right now. Every time I'm braking and hit a slippery spot my tires lock up and I hear this fast clicking type sound. Anyway, does anyone know what the cause of this might be and what the fix could be? Also, if this is the same ABS problem other people have had does anyone know if it gets worse and causes other problems? The way it is now its not a big deal to me since this is my first vehicle with ABS and I'm very used to driving where my tires will lock up on slippery roads, so if it probably won't cause any other issues I'll probably leave it be if its a hard fix.


Also, I have one more question. It's a pretty dumb one, but I can't figure out how to fold down my fricken back seat. I unlatch the upper part and try to fold it down but the cushions of the bottom part of the seat get in the way. So, I figure the bottom part must move out of the way somehow, but I can't figure out how to do it. So, anyone know how to do this?

hey man, i'm new here but i just got my rodeo. haven't heard anything about the abs. i think mine is having the same problem. although i haven't driven it enough to get familiar with it. i just got it yesterday. but i can help you with the back seats. you got to pull the bottom seats up against the back of the front seats then take the head rests off and then you can fold the seats down. good luck. i'll see if i can find anymore info on the abs thing.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

I also had issues with my 99 ABS system. Does the ABS light stay on. If so you need to find out what fault code you have before you can figureout the issue. You can find out the code by shorting pins 4 to 12 on the OBDII connector. Then you need to count the # of flashes to see what the issue is. You candownload theservice manual athttp://foto.afn.kz/x/Rodeo/ and it explains all the codes and the process.My problem was broken wires on the rear speed sensor which I had heard is a common problem the way the wires are routed. Actually, no my ABS light does not stay on. But just the fact that my brakes lock up means that it is not working properly, doesn't it?


Also, thanks for the manual link! I've actually spent quite a bit of time searching the internet for a place that had it online.

Now, another question (just never seems to end with these things does it?) So, I live in WI and we have been getting a lot of snow lately so I've been using 4-hi quite a bit. I use it everytime I need to get into my driveway since it is steep and always slippery. Anyway, today after I got out of my driveway I hit the button to turn off the 4hi and it would not come out of 4. It didn't make any funny noises or anything, but the light just kept flashing and did not come out of 4 until I stopped and shut off the vehicle and then restarted it. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this? The on the fly 4 wheel drive is awesome, I'd really rather not loose the ability to use it. Also, I did use 4 wheel again tonight and had the same problem, so it has happened twice now.

yea, i got the same problem. it's been doing that since i got it. every time i take it off 4wd it flashes. but the 4wd is still engaged. but after a little while it just turns off and then it's in 2wd. i read the manual and it says....if it starts flashing after you put it in 2wd from 4wd, just repeat the steps over again. i do that and it still flashes. i'll look into it some more. haven't really had time. tryin to work and make that money.

For the abs, Isuzu never really got abs right. Thankfully mine actually works pretty good. There was a recall on the abs module to fix some strange behavior. If you call an isuzu dealer and ask if yours has been done they will ask for your VIN then look it up to see if its been done or not. If not that could be your problem. Alot of isuzu owners just pull the abs fuse and live without it.

For the 4wd, it wont shift out of 4wd if there is any load on the system or if its in a bind. If you are moving, try alternating gas and coasting a couple times. If stopped try backing up a little. That should allow it to shift out. If that doesnt do it your actuator might be getting sticky. Not uncommon. Its always good to put it in 4wd then back to 2wd, even if sitting still, once a month or so to keep the parts from freezing up. Some have had luck removing the actuator and cleaning/lubing it to free it up. Others have had to replace theirs.

I think I'll go with removing the abs fuse. I'm pretty sure I can handle going without it, never had it before on my old carsand haven't had a problem.


For the 4wd, I think it mainly has problems if I've had it in 4wd for a while. I'll keep in mind cleaning/lubing the actuator if I have more problems.

Its your sensors in your wheel wells. red connectors down to your rotors, front only, yes will lock up. The light should come on with the lock ups!!

He has a '99 4wd which has front and rear abs. The rear sensor is mounted on the top of the differential. If the ABS light stays on its almost always a broken wire in the harness where it connects to the main harness. Sometimes its the sensor but not often. I've never seen mine come on when the abs activated. The only time I've ever seen mine on is when we had 3ft of snow and I got high centered for a bit. It stayed on till the next day then went off on its own.

Isuzu abs is overly sensitive and alot of ppl dont like it. Mine feels fine to me.

Well, my abs light was not on at all until I removed the fuse finally today. I don't think it is a sensor because it sounds and feels as if the abs is trying to work. What happens is when it's slippery and I hit the brakes is I hear this grinding sound, almost like gears skipping or something, there is slight pulsing in the brakes, but it doesn't work right. I did notice that when this happens my brakes do not work properly, it is hard to stop. It's almost like it holds the pads from putting enough pressure on the rotors or something. It feels a lot like having a small hole in the brake line, you slow down, but it takes a while to stop.


Anyway, I pulled the abs fuse today and had no more problems, so I'm probably just going to live without abs. Like I said before it's not too big of a deal because I'm used to driving without abs. Also, my 4wd hasn't had any problems since I posted this, so i'm thinking it was just a slight glitch. I've been using the 4wd a lot (winter in WI + 4wd = fun). Also, I finally figured out the backseats. [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]
