I own a very clean smooth running 2001 Rodeo, totally stock. I drove over some high mountain freeway passes 6000+ elevation @ 75mph and felt like the motor really needed more air/power ( I was getting sick of the tranny shifting down, motor screaming to maintain 75mph). Has anyone installed a cold air intake on the V6 and what kind of results did you notice?? Which product if any would you recommend? Dont be afraid to let the engine rev, they are high reving engines. The power band starts around 3k rpm. Take the trans out of OD before going up any large passes and if it still wants to shift alot use the power button. The 4L30E trans is kind of a weak link and its better to let the engine work then the trans.

I have a 5 speed but I live around 5500 ft and frequently travel over 12k ft passes. With my close to stock size tires I could easily go over the passes at 70-75 in 4th gear. Now that I have 32" tires I might have to drop to 3rd. I have the stock air box still.

Remember that as you go up in elevation there is less oxygen. You will lose about 10-15% hp for every 6k ft.

He's right on alot of points. they are high rev engines but yours is doin something weird. The air filter does help a whole lot, trust me. They dont make high proformance cone air filters for us... I mean K&amp;N doesnt make it. But I looked up a Pontiac G6 and its a perfect fit. The car runs great, sounds great. No problems and pluse the gas is noticably better. This will get more air flow into the engine especially in that high alltitude.Edited by: Nick6147

I also want to add, calmini has a cold air intake but I really think that our stock short ram flows just as well if not better than anything else. Just stick with the air filter... like I said
