My 99 Rodeo is burning about 1 liter of oil ever 600km's (About 1 quart for every 350mi for all you US folk). Has anyone had a similar problem and if so, is this a common thing or a known problem with the 3.2 DOHC Motor. I only have about 110000km's ( 68000 mi) on the motor. If isuzu knows about it, was there any recalls I should be aware of?

the piston oil rings seize if the oil wasnt changed religiously everytime.isuzu corrected the concern in 03 an up model engines.make sure the oil level stays full or it will burn rod bearings quickly if it get too low on you.

Thanks for the info.

Is there upgraded parts from the factory that remedy thisfrom a Sevice recall or something to that effect? Or did they redesign the engine entirely?

My oil gets changed religiously every 5000km but I don't know the history before I purchased the vehicle.

You can get pistons and rings with more and larger oil return holes, but you are basicly talking engine rebuild to do it. Keeping the PCV valve and EGR valves along with the EGR tube (inside the intake plenum) clean usually helps to prevent that, can even reverse the oil burning process in some cases.

There are alot of reports of using sea foam or auto Rx before oil changes helping. Lots of info about it on other isuzu forums.

It is a poor design but isuzu never issued a recall on it, not considered a safety issue. They even consider 1 qt per 1000 miles normal.
