We have a 2001 Rodeo V6 4WD 5 speed. The truck burns a little oil as expected with this engine I was told but we have a leak somewhere in the top/front of the engine. Thought it was the valve cover gasket right off, no luck. The garage added some "stuff" to the filler cap as they thought it might no be sealing properly, no luck. To me it seems like there is something up the the front most cylinder. I have cleaned the engine and watched to try and trace back to the leak and have had no luck. Any thoughts anyone?

Probably the cam shaft seals. Some ppl replace them when doing the timing belt while they are in there.

Its not a good idea to put any kind of stop leak in these engines. They have a problem with the oil drain back holes in the pistons clogging (only 3-4 holes per piston and they are smaller then normal) which causes them to burn oil. You want to try to keep them clear.

Some info on oil burning...

TKS, Dave, Hoping you would see the post. We have our oil changed at or around 5000K like clock work. I also add a Wynn''s oil additive recommended by a friend mechanic many moons ago. I''m not concerned about burning oil, for us about 1/4 liter per 600KMs, although I may try the oil change/clean thing anyway. I am worried about the oil residue we see on the top of the engine. On a sidebar note, I have a friend in Florida as we speak picking up the fuel sender unit for me. Good info.
