98 3.2 stalling and sometimes dieing

I've got the 3.2l engine, it keeps stalling under acceleration. It does not seem like the normal miss fire, as it seems the engine completely shuts down for a split second. All I notice is the engine cut out and the tach drops about 4-500 rpms then picks up and seems fine. If it occurs at idle or taking off it will die.

Automatic transmission if that helps any.

Do you recall the fix???

Hello,

I realize it's been 5+ years since you posted this question, but do you remember what the fix was (it you were able to)?

I'm having a similar situation w/ a 2004 w/ the 3.2L It also randomly "shuts down" for a second, then will usually just fire back up on it's own (all I notice is the sudden power loss and gauge warning lights come on briefly) . If it does completely stall, I can throw it into Neutral, and restart w/ key, then seems fine for rest of journey. I have noticed that this will only happen within the first 1/2 mile or so after a cold start. It has yet to stall after this distance or it engine still warm from an earlier drive.

I've replaced the fuel filter, pump regulator and fuel pump, but still happening...

Thanks for any info

Catalytic Converter

I recently had a similar problem. Check the catalytic converters and sensors.

Thanks for reply Jonathan. Wanted to be sure before posting, and it's been OK for over a month, so probably fixed. After multiple scans, a fault for crankshaft position sensor eventually appeared (although Check Engine Light never came on). I noticed oil (from valve cover gaskets) in the sensor connector and got away with cleaning the contact, but it would still act up on occasion. Once I changed the sensor, it's been doing great! Next up: changing valve cover gaskets!!!
