The heat in my Rodeo works great... until I go downhill. No big deal other than my commute to work starts at 10k feet, up to 12,100, down to 9,600. Has anyone experienced this and if so... it is the thermostat or am I looking at something else?

Thanks,

Matt

When the engine is cold open the radiator cap and check the coolant level. It might be really low. Its not uncommon for the level in the radiator to be low and the overflow bottle to stay full. Thats about the only thing I can think of that would cause it. Thermostat will either fail open in which case you would never get up to temp, or fail closed in which case you would over heat.
