96 Rodeo Motor
I have a 1996 rodeo that just seemed to quit running about a week ago. i was driving and my oil light came on and my pressure dropped. it started knocking really bad and now whenever i start it it starts shooting smoke all over. i had a couple of people tell me the engine is blown but i refuse to believe that. just wondering if anyone could help< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/">< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

What kind of smoke? Blue-black, like burning oil, or whitish, like steam? In any case, it does sound like your engine gave it up.
In 2004, I had a 86 Trooper, was going down the highway at 70mph, and it did the same thing. Turns out the oil pump had failed, and at that speed, toasted the bearings fast.

I have a 94 Rodeo with the 3.2. Ran fine until one day it sounded like dwarves were trying to destroy the inside of the heads. A little research showed that Isuzu was apparently notorius for their engines having no tolerance for the regular varnish build-up from oil regularly breaking down in the engine. The lifters in particular would stick, resulting in the need to have the valves/lifters/guides replaced. Be aware, those are pricy little things.
I had the right cylinder head re-built, and it's been OK since. I learned that even under warranty, Isuzu would not perform repairs if the owner could not produce receipts for oil changes every three thousand miles. Miss one, and they would say "no dice". That alone tells me they were aware of a tolerance problem with their engines.
The mechanics advice is to have the repair done, then switch to Mobil One or similar sythentic oil and keep the oil clean and changed. That should stop any further varnish, as synthetics don't break down like petroleumproducts.
Hope this helps!

Dont know of anywhere in denver that sells that stuff for isuzus cept the dealer and they arent cheap. You could PM underdog on planetisuzoo and get a price quote from him. He works for a dealer but gives discounts to members. Also st. charles isuzu in st. louis gives a 10% discount and free shipping for planetisuzoo members.
It has been 4 months since my rodeo ran it has just been sitting in my garage ever since I work a part time job and Pay for this as I can afford it which means I honestly don''t know if I will ever get it running again Edited by: IsuzuKid
