I am looking at buying a Rodeo with a nonfunctional A/C in it. From the sound of it, the compressor needs replacing and looking at parts I can see this will run me a few hundred if I attempt to do the work myself.

What I am interested in considering is converting the A/C system to the R134(?). Has anyone done this and is it particularly difficult? And is it more expensive than just fixing the original unit?

Also this car is owned by a mechanic who says it has a small oil leak coming from the drain pan area. It concerns me that this may be a particularly difficult or expensive fix since he himself did not repair it.

Can anyone give me ideas on if this sounds like a money pit or a recoverable car?
