1994 Rodeo, 3.2 engine with 5 speed trans. The clutch fluid level drops, with no visible external leak, either from the reservoir or the slave cylinder that is mounted on the outside of the transmission.

When I pulled the small access cover off the bottom of the bellhousing, hydraulic fluid began running from the cover opening. An inspection by flashlight into the housing shoed all of the interior surfaces to be wet, probably with the clutch hydraulic fluid that has gone missing!

Any ideas on how to proceed from here? I figure a new clutch plate and assembly for sure, due to the contamination.

I would just rebuild/replace the slave cylinder and see how the clutch behaves. No sense in replacing the clutch if it still works ok.

OK, less than great news from the trans shop. As I figured, the slave cylinder inside the bellhousing had failed, spraying fluid all over the clutch, frying the pressure plate, generally screwing up the works.

Although the shop is staying with the original labor estimate, the clutch alone is around 500.00, plus new pressure plate, new slave cylinder, plus misc items. I'm looking at around 1100.oo by this time tomorrow. Good news is, this should bullet-proof the trans for the life of the ride.

Yikes they are charging alot for the parts. Can get a complete clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing) from napa for $314 for a new one or $174 for re manufactured. And most likely they are getting the parts from napa, most shops here to anyway.
