2001 V6 Rodeo Sport clutch issues??

It's getting tough shifting into 1st and reverse and the dealer diagnosed it as "probably" needing a new clutch. They quoted a price of about $1350. I just changed the tranny and differential fluids and I'm wondering if there's some other possible problem other than the clutch. It has about 74K on it (I'm the original owner).

Also, what are the good aftermarket clutch manufacturers and internet auto parts sites?

Has anyone replaced a clutch themselves? The Haynes manual always has crappy pix and it looks very involved. I do have a mechanic's pit in my garage, though.

Any thoughts/tips are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

So what did u deside about your clutch? Did u do it yourself? I replaced mine myself 12 years ago but don't think i would try it today. My car would do that so i would have to put it in 5th gear before going to reverse or 1 st gear. I just got use to it. The gear box and engine just seem to be out of alignment. The only thing it that the housing is very heavy, other then that it wasn't too hard.
I think i am going to get a quote for the work myself, that is a lot of money. Dealers want to replace everything instead of repair what really is wrong?
