Default 2001 Rodeo V6 Spark Plugs.

My 2001 Rodeo I just purchased is in the 75k miles area so I decided to replace the spark plugs. I pulled out the ones it came with which look like some factory original NGK's in copper. Gap was waaay off but all plugs had good wear and color to them and all looked the same. Thought I would upgrade to some Bosch Platinum/Iridiums but after what I thought would be an upgrade my Rodeo had rough idle and started throwing engine codes. Ran the code scanner on it and got a reading of multiple misfires.

Pulled them out and down graded to just the Bosch Platimnums and had the same results. Pulled those out and went back to just the copper NGK's and everything went back to normal.

Just thought I post to see if anyone else had this problem and to give a heads up to anyone that might be thinking of upgrading to Platinums. Who knows maybe a different brand of Platinums would have worked but 3 trips to Walmart were enough for me.

i am betting that you did not put the coil on the drivers rear back in the exact same spot. that one has a shorter boot to give clearance for the brake booster. this means that if you put it elswear it will miss. its only about 1/4" shorter. let me know if this is the case

Actually I did each plug one at a time so there was no chance of mizing them up and I know what you are talking about as I read about that part online being a possible issue. So far it's been running grreat on the NGK coppers, just used the same type of plugs that I pulled out of it.

Thanks for the help though.

Rodeos are notorious for running bad on plugs other than NGK. Never buy any thing other then your standard NGK. I've tried so many different plugs for none to work other then NGK's

the plugs are being used as sensors for the combustion quality, there is not much space for error, it has to be the correct plugs with the correct throughput or your computer will get confused. Denso K16PR-P11 are the #1 recommended, I just put NGks in and get a p1326 (faulty signal in the said circuit), will go back to Denso again (anybody coming to Belize anytime soon who can bring me a set? I can't just go to the store and get them here :-(
