Default 1997 Isuzu Rodeo Heater Core Issues

Lately, I've been getting some condensation on the inside of the windshield of my '97 Rodeo (3.2L V6) and a powerful smell of antifreeze coming from my air vents, so it looks like I've got a leak in my heater core. Seems like a slow leak, since there isn't too much wetness on the floor mats, but I can't think of any other problem that fits this situation.

I've looked around for parts, and it seems that because the 97 is such an oddball, having the older body style but including airbags, it has a year-specific core. Furthermore, it's a dealer-only part to the tune of $530. To save money, I'll be trying to remove the heater core and bring it in to a local radiator shop for repair. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice or instructions on removing the part, or if someone has encountered this problem in the past and knows of a cheap, reliable fix.

I'd like to avoid buying a used part from a wrecking yard -- I barely trust the parts in my rig, much less someone else's vehicle that's already given up the ghost.

Thanks for any help.

i had a leak in my moms 96 rodeo v6, 2wd, i had to pull the whole dash.... i looked for a way to not but i could find none, and no auto parts store had the correct part, i did get mine from a junk yard car, and checked it, and it works great to this day, as for cheap fixes, most are temporary at best..... and could cause bigger problems, if u have to pull ur dash might as well go to a junk yard most there are some what pulled apart i got the heater core out of the junk yard car in about ten min, reinstall in my moms car, somewhere about 6 hours, but i am not a professional and that was my first time pulling and reassembling a dash

HI "Ursus_Sapien" ... I not sure if it's the same procedure to replace the heater core on a 97... but I got a late 95 model that I replace the heater core last year ( after a bad mechanic make a simple fix, an charge a lot of money) it was a lot of work but not difficult, I pent around $240.00 total (Heater Core part $90, Manual Repair $?, evacuate and recharge AC System $120, other tool $?) and tree weekends. I recommend to purchase the Manual repair for you model and use a camera to shot some photos wend your taking a part the dashboard (I think I had the photos wend I did the replacement give me a day to look for them and I upload for you) "But before you do something get a flash light and look on the firewall in the engine compartment for the Heater hoses and check if they still on good shape and had firm connection.... Sorry for my english Is not my first language and I still learning... Thanks

Put in some high quality aluminum stop leak. Be careful & add it slowly. Fixed mine that way 4 years ago and it still works to this day. Just be careful not to put in too much at once or you might stop up the core all together.

Hey, you got nothing to lose but $12.00 for the stop leak at Advance or Auto Zone.. Make sure you get the one in the plastic bottle that looks like it has tiny aluminum flakes in it (which, is cause it does).
