If there is replace the unit as a whole, you will probably find that 1 type of unit fit,s all type of scimitar not sure of type gauges you have but smith,

 

There are a couple of things that could be wrong. The most likely one is the sending unit in the tank.the things it could be are a shorted wire. Does the guage work when you have a full tank? does it just drop when you get below a 1/4 tank? If so the sending unit IS the problem If this is a steady problem.
