I have a 1986 Pup 1.9 that I bought new. It now has just over 200,000 miles. It has normal wear for a truck of that age and miles, but most of all it has sentimental value. On cool mornings when I first start driving I get a sound that I think is the throw out bearing. After a few minutes the noise level drops. I know this is not very much information, but is the throw out bearing subject to animmediate breakdown, ordoes it normally continue to get worse? Is replacing the clutch assembly on this truck a major undertaking, or should a shadetree mechanic be able to handle the job? if it is your throwout bearing then i wouldn''t really worry about it until your clutch goes completly south..... i did the clutch on mine.... wasn''t really too bad at all just expect some weight as the tranny''s are heavy.... past that if you''re pretty mechanically inclined it won''t be all that bad....

So is your truck still making the sound? Mine does the same thing. Not a big deal and it only does it when it is very cold. I live in a warm climate so it isnt a problem now. My friend had to take his clutch out and i didmine years ago. He is hard on his truck. I guess i''ve been through worst. It is heavy though.

also it very well could be the syncros.... whens the last time you serviced the trans??? mine has 214k on it and it makes a little whine from the syncros that sounds like it could be the T/out bearing..... a fresh oil change helped to quiet it down a bunch now it''s barely noticeable....
