First post here and its with a problem. Aint that always the case?

Bought a Nov 92 Isuzu Pick-up the other day. Had a bad water pump. So when I R&R the WP I naturally decided to R&R the T-belt as well. Got a HAYNES MANUAL to "assist" in the operation. When I set the cam at what the book called the timing mark, a small cast teet on the back cover, the crank lined up between 1:00 and 2:00 against the what the book called the casting line, at 12:00 behind the crank cog. The book showed the cast teet to be also at around 12:00. On the actual truck this mark is around the 2:00 position. There is what appears to be a small notch cut into the back of the cover at the 12:00 position. Is this the mark I need to use instead of the teet? While I do need to check valve adjustment I'd rather not have to pull the cam cover today unless necessary. Any quick help would be appreciated. CH

Had to get underway on this repair. Pulled the valve cover off and to my surprise the timing marks are set up to fire on #4 NOT #1. It HAS to be this way since there is only one dowel in the cam sprocket and it sets up on #4. Of course the HAYNES MANUAL says its supposed to set on #1. This isn't the first descrepency I've found in a HAYNES MANUAL but I do think it to be the worst. Or do I have somekind of oddball motor?
